Tourism industry urged to improve human resources

It is necessary to raise the quality of human resources in the tourism industry to maintain the sector’s growth rate and ensure the sustainable development of Vietnam’s tourism, said the deputy head of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) Nguyen Manh Cuong.
Cuong made the statement at a meeting to ensure the quality and development of human resources in the tourism industry held in Ho Chi Minh City on November 6. The meeting, which forms part of an EU-financed project to develop Vietnam’s tourism-related human resources, aims to help the government and businesses maintain the quantity and quality of the country’s human resources in this sector. The project is a result of cooperation between the European Commission and the VNAT, with a total budget of 12 million EUR, of which the EU contributed 10.8 million EUR. The participants discussed a range of solutions designed to boost cooperation between various training offices, businesses and tourism management agencies so as to engender sustainable development for tourism. They were also updated on information relating to developments in human resources relevant to the tourism industry in Vietnam.
